19 Crimes Cali Red is a red blend produced by Treasury Wine Estates out of California. This popular and easy-drinking red blend combines Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah and Syrah.
The wine is named after 19 Crimes, a punishment enacted in 18th century England for various crimes. As punishment, criminals were given the choice between death or imprisonment and banishment to the looming continent of Australia. Those that chose to brave this ruthless new land were met with a loud and sturdy declaration: “By the power of His Majesty, you are hereby sentenced to transportation.” Each label contains “The Declaration of Independence,” in which the 19 felons agreed to abandon Britain and start anew in Australia.
Tasting notes for this addictively fruity blend include ripe dark berry, cherry, spiced plum, and sweet tobacco, with hints of oak, vanilla and eucalyptus. Thesoft, smooth palate has gentle, supple tannins and a long finish. This juicy red is perfect for everyday drinking with a variety of dishes, such as grilled meats, stews, pizza, or pasta.
