Fonterutoli Chianti Classico

Since its founding in 1893, Fonterutoli Chianti Classico has been the pride of the Mazzei family. Located near Siena, Italy in the Chianti Classico zone, the estate contains over 320 acres of vineyards, most planted with Sangiovese Grosso, the local variety for Chianti Classico. The vineyards utilise various Guyot techniques and the soils are typically comprised of limestone, clay and alluvial deposits of sand and gravel. Fonterutoli Chianti Classico wines are typically a blend of 80-90% Sangiovese Grosso and up to 10-20 % other local varieties like Canaiolo and Colorino. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 12 months in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by 12 months of aging in bottle. The wines are known for their elegance, complexity and ability to age beautifully. The aroma is intense, with fresh red cherry and Damson plum aromas together with herbal and floral notes.
