Glenmorangie X is a single malt Scotch whisky produced by Glenmorangie Distillery in the Scottish Highlands. It is made using malted barley that has been heavily peated and aged in ex-bourbon casks for 10 years. The spirit is then finished in a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pedro Ximinez sherry casks sourced from Jerez, Spain. Glenmorangie X is bottled at 43% ABV and has a dark gold hue. The nose is smoky and medicinal, with aromas of sea salt, citrus, honey, and nutmeg. On the palate there is an initial sweet and peaty flavor followed by notes of stewed fruits, baking spices, and toasted oak. The finish is long and complex, with lingering smokiness. Glenmorangie X is best enjoyed neat, over ice, or in a classic whisky cocktail like the Rob Roy. It can also be used to make an imaginative whisky-based dessert such as an affogato.
