Grand Marnier is a French liqueur created by Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle in 1880. It is a blend of fine cognac and distilled essence of orange, and it remains one of the world’s most recognizable and popular liqueurs. Grand Marnier is enjoyed blended with fruit juices, stirred into coffee and tea, swirled into cocktails, and drizzled over dessert. Grand Marnier was born from an unlikely pairing. To create Grand Marnier, Pontalier supreme cognac is blended with the distilled essences of wild tropical oranges from Caribbean islands including Haiti and Martinique. After this blend is rounded out with an aged cognac, it is put into oak barrels and left to rest for a full month. The resulting liqueur then goes through a special centrifuge filtration process to remove any impurities and complete the recipe. The color of Grand Marnier is deep amber with copper hues. On the nose, Grand Marnier has a sweet, rich aroma, filled with orange, raisins, and prunes.
