Gymkata Syrah is an Australian red wine blend made by Up The Creek winery in the northeast of the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. This wine is a deep, dark red with a complex blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Syrah component is aged in French oak barrels for around 20 months. This contributes to the intense aromas of dark plums, blueberries, cassis, blackberry cordial, cigar box and leather, with nuances of aniseed and a touch of pepper spice. On the palate, this full-bodied wine has a dense, powerful texture that coats the tongue. The well-integrated tannins offer structure and balance to the ripe berry fruit flavors. The finish is long and balanced, with lingering spicy nuances. Overall, Gymkata Syrah is an excellent, complex red wine that offers a great combination of balance, structure and intense flavor. It pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, stews and mature cheeses.
