Highland Park Magnus is a limited-edition Scotch whisky released in 2017 from the Highland Park distillery on Orkney, an archipelago in the far north of Scotland. Highland Park has been producing whisky since 1798, and this latest expression takes its inspiration from the founder of the distillery, Magnus Eunson. The whisky is a vatting of 50 casks, both sherry-seasoned and American oak casks, and has been packaged in bottles decorated with Magnus Eunson's own pistol. The aroma of Highland Park Magnus is all about smokiness and complex layers of dried fruit and heather, while the palate offers rich spices, chocolate, and dried figs. On the finish, Highland Park Magnus is really all about the smoke and the peat, but also the complexity of the wood and the spices lingers for a long time. This whisky is bottled at 47.2% ABV and is best enjoyed neat or with a single large ice cube. With its intense smokiness, Highland Park Magnus is best suited to pairing with barbecued meats, seafood, and cheeses.
